La Moulin de Fontenay

A Beautiful watermill with its own private fishing lake

Accommodation

Le Moulin De Fontenay is a beautifully restored 19th century watermill nestling in the Mayenne countryside. It stands in 8 acres of private, peaceful woodland with its own private fishing lake of about 1 acre. The lake is well stocked with carp up to 30lb and trout (good fun to catch and barbecue). Both of our properties have been tastefully restored retaining many of their original features. The surrounding countryside is great for bird watching as there are buzzards, kestrels, kingfishers, woodpeckers and if you are lucky you may hear the cuckoo or the hoopoe who arrive here every spring. Wild boar have also been seen in the woods along with the occasional deer. If you enjoy walking or cycling the local roads are very quite and you see so much more than in the car. In the spring it is lovely to see the new born lambs and it is not uncommon to see the odd calf being born. Youngsters may enjoy helping to feed Silas the donkey, Dolly the sheep or Brian the goat. They can also help themselves to eggs.

Le Moulin De Fontenay is a 19th century watermill. The mill is on 3 levels with the large family kitchen being on the ground floor. The large comfortable living room is on the 1st floor and the 3 bedrooms on the 2nd floor along with the bathroom and toilet. It is stone built with a wood burning fire for the winter months. It stands next to a stream where you can catch trout and even crayfish. The stairs inside are the original ones so they may be a little steep when compared to modern ones.
